The bus visited nine schools with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board to collect food and toys for the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

“We collected about 7,500 items between food and toys,” said communications co-ordinator Stephen Fields. “That was enough to fill three school buses.

“The toys will be donated to the Children’s Aid Society for their Adopt-A-Family program and all of the food will go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s foodbank.”

Students at H.J. Lassaline, Our Lady of the Annunciation, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Sacred Heart, St. André, St. Anne French Immersion, St. Mary, St. Pius X, and W.J. Langlois took part in this year’s 10th annual campaign.

“The event is really about teaching our kids the valuable lessons that are cornerstones of our Catholic faith,” Fields told the Windsor Star. “That’s is taking care of those people who are less fortunate among you.

“We emphasize with our students that there are a lot of vulnerable people in our community and those of us who are little more fortunate have an obligation to make sure that we are doing something to take care of those people — especially around Christmas.”

Final loading took place Thursday morning outside St. Pius X Catholic Elementary School on Lacasse Boulevard in Tecumseh.

“It’s a really fun feel-good kind of day,” Fields said. “You could tell there’s a real vibe in the school and the students are just so excited about what they’ve managed to accomplish for people in our community.”
